Trivia: Sources of Toxins

Society has evolved such that our ways of life has evolved from those of our ancestors. Nowadays, everything is polluted – air, water and indirectly, all living things. This has, in turn, resulted in a greater build up of toxins in our body, which then gives rise to troubled skin, sluggish energy levels and even poor health!

While it is widely known that the liver detoxifies the body by converting toxins into compounds to be expelled from the body, did you know that the skin is one of our eliminative organs? This means that the skin helps to expel toxins – such as heavy metals – from our body through our pores.

Conversely, using skincare that consists of chemicals may result in absorption of these toxins through the pores. This results in extra work for the liver! There are two main implications.

Elimination of toxins through the skin
One, pimple breakouts on the skin – also known as inflammation – are results of elimination of toxins. Even dark eye circles and puffy eyes are symptoms of skin detoxification! So if you have been experiencing these two symptoms for a prolonged period of time, you may want to embark on detoxification to ease the burden on your liver.

Absorption of toxins through the skin
Two, skincare can cause inflammation of the skin as well as affect the liver indirectly! Now, this suggests that we should switch to natural skincare instead. Sure, natural skincare may be more costly than the drugstore brands, but it is definitely more worthwhile in the long run.

Supplements can be toxic
Now, another source of toxins can be – gasp! – your intake of supplements! While supplements are always touted as an all-in-one, each individual requires different amounts of a specific nutrient. This means that common supplements such as Vitamin C or multivitamins may not contain the right amount as required by the body. A lesser amount equates to insufficiency in the body; a greater amount is unutilised and therefore remains in the body as toxins!

Sufficient research before purchases
Both skincare products and supplements can contribute to poor overall wellbeing, so purchase wisely!

It is good to detoxify the body once in a while too. Natural vegetable/juice supplements such as this are flushed out by the body daily, hence they do not remain in the body as toxins!
